However, there is sex discrimination in the military. For one, it is believed that women do not possess as much strength as men, and that their skeletal system is weak and therefore, more prone to fractures. The other reason cited for not allowing women in combat situation is that male soldiers do not trust them to act when the time comes, especially if the male soldier has to trust his female counterpart with his life. Therefore, women are not allowed in combat situations due to their psychological makeup.

The common view is that women are not allowed military combat jobs because of the sexist view that men have and also because somewhere at the back of the minds there is this traditional view that being soldiers is a masculine profession. However, there are many examples that one can give from history where women were active in the battlefield fighting shoulder to shoulder with male soldiers.

Sexual harassment has also made life difficult for women soldiers. In fact, in 2006, a woman guardsman from the US Coast Guard revealed that number of rapes had taken place not just in the US Coast Guard and but also four other branches of the US military.

Therefore, one can say that sex discrimination and harassment in the military is ongoing and the military has to introduce stricter laws to combat these situations.
