Racial discrimination has been present since ancient times. It is not a natural reaction. Rather it is brought on by social, cultural and political influences where the powerful always look to exploit the weaker person. |
Will racial discrimination ever end? This is a question for which many people will not have an answer. In an idyllic world, racial discrimination could end forever. However, if you think rationally and practically, this discrimination may never end. The reason for this is very simple. As long as people from different cultures do not make an effort to learn and respect other cultures, racial discrimination and racial stereotyping will continue.
The only way to end racial discrimination is for people to make an effort to respect other cultures and learn something about them. This will make people realize that people from different race, religion or ethnicity are no different from them. They have the same fears and same problems. By understanding each others culture, we can come closer and not be prejudiced or judgmental about a person from a different race. Basically this will change the perceptions we carry about certain individuals or group of people.
Racial discrimination is basically generalization or stereotyping based on ideological values that people have. It is not based on experience or analysis. That is why governments have laws to prohibit and ban discrimination and segregation.
However, it will be an uphill battle if we want to end racial discrimination forever. We have to make people understand that just because someone has different traits, skin color or features, it does not mean that the person is a threat to us or our values and beliefs. Rather we should make an effort to understand that person so that we no longer perceive him as a threat. Once this is achieved, automatically there will be no cause to discriminate the person based on his race.
