Child Labor For Immigrant

Based on studies, it has been concluded that poverty among the immigrants in the US has increased compared to what it was in the 1970s. In fact, these studies have found that the poverty rate among children of immigrants is much higher compared to the rate among the children of the natives.

However, the studies do not give conclusive evidence that poverty is the main cause of child labor among immigrant families.

Although immigrant families in the US have a better standard of life than what they had in their home countries, compared to the prevalent standard in the US, these families are not faring that well.

However, even then due to poverty among the immigrant families, child labor is a reality. Although sociologists and law makers are doing every bit to ensure that child labor from immigrant families is eradicated in the US, it is a Herculean task. This is primarily because the immigrants coming into the US are no from Europe. Instead, today, US has high number of immigrants from Latin America and Asia. Many of these immigrants are not highly skilled and do not have the required qualifications to get a well-paid job. In addition, based on the current economy, the US does not have that many jobs in the manufacturing sector, which was where immigrants used to work.

Without a high school diploma or a college degree, many immigrant families are facing poverty and this has lead to them sending their children out to work to make ends meet. The fact that the parents are not educated also contributes to the children not completing high school. And ultimately, it all becomes a vicious cycle where one thing leads to the other.
